What are Industry sponsored studies?
These studies are funded by and sponsored by commercial pharma, devices, diagnostics, and biotech companies.
Industry studies can be adopted onto the NIHR Clinical Research Network Portfolio, and this is strongly encouraged.
How can the Clinical Research Office support you?
The Clinical Research Office has a dedicated Industry Team to provide a streamlined quality service for industry sponsors and researchers wishing to conduct clinical studies within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the University of Sheffield. The team works in conjunction with the Industry Manager of the South Yorkshire Comprehensive Local Research Network (SYCLRN) to attract trials to the locality.
The Clinical Research Office has adopted the principles behind the national industry costing template, with local variations, for all industry sponsored trials.
Our Research Coordinator team have backgrounds within the pharmaceutical and CRO industries and, together with the Industry-dedicated Research Accountant; work closely with our clinical investigators to ensure:
- opportunities for investigators
- speed and quality of trial feasibility
- speed and quality of negotiation and sign off of agreements and budgets
- transparent pricing of trials and distribution of income
- speed and quality of Research Governance approvals
- speed and quality of FPFV
- efficiency of tracking and invoicing of trials
We believe that effective project management is the key to meeting study timelines. We achieve this through assigning a dedicated Research Coordinator to each study who will meet with, and act as a single point of contact for the sponsor, study team, support services and Clinical Directorates, for the life of the study.

The Clinical Research Office is experienced in meeting the challenge of recruiting from Primary Care. Our Research Coordinators work closely with the Primary Care Research Network and Sheffield Primary Care Trust to meet sponsor recruitment needs.
