Clinical Research Office. A partnership between Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Sheffield

Laboratory Medicine

Laboratory Medicine provides clinical laboratory services and research support of the highest quality to clinicians working in hospital, the community and general practice. The directorate includes the departments of:

  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Coagulation
  • Haematology
  • Histopathology
  • Immunology
  • Microbiology
  • Virology

Whilst the prime function of the directorate is to provide a first class diagnostic service, based on the examination of specimens collected from patients, it also makes very significant contributions to research and teaching in an environment of academic excellence. All departments are fully accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and are GCP compliant.

Please contact the Laboratory Research Coordinator at least two weeks prior to the start of the study in order that final arrangements can be made with regards to the research samples that will be coming to the Laboratory. This is so that you have the latest information about the research tests you require and ensures that you will obtain the results that we have agreed to do for you.
