Vision
The directorate’s research strategy is to strengthen the links between the NHS and the academic departments, rewards success and innovation, builds on ideas and generates research income and publications. To achieve this, the directorate will strive to attract clinicians of high calibre, give intellectual reward to those within the department, encourage collaboration between academics and NHS clinicians within the directorate and enhance the overall research position of the Trust. Central to the directorate strategy is to recognise the changing face of funding for research and ensure that all activity is fully resourced if it is to be successful. The directorate recognises that, whilst investigator driven ‘own account’ research should continue to be supported, key to success in the future is to align directorate research priorities with national research priorities, in particular the national research portfolio.
This strategy must also recognise the contribution to research made by non medical staff within the directorate.
