My Research Experience guidance for staff 2026/2027

My Research Experience (MRE) gives you and your participants greater flexibility in how the survey is offered and completed.

Who do I need to offer it to?
  • Participants of NIHR portfolio studies.
 
When to offer the survey:
  • You can now offer the adult survey (people over 16y) multiple times during a participant’s study journey. The study team can decide when is best to offer it, for example this may be soon after consent and then again towards the end of the study.
 
  • Participants can only use a survey link once so for all options other than a prefab link, you will need to generate a new link each time you offer the survey.
 
How do I offer it?

  • The survey can be accessed on the My Research Experience website. The study team members will need to create their own login via the “Researcher sign up” option.

  • Study team members will need to generate a survey form for participants using one of several options. Details of the options for offering the survey are outlined here: My Research Experience surveys | NIHR RDN

Accessibility

  • The survey platform has built in accessibility features supporting participants with visual, cognitive and language needs.
  • If the participant cannot complete the survey digitally and requests a paper copy, you may offer a printed copy of the paper version available here (or contact Katie and Lucy).
  • Responses from paper copies need to be inputted into My Research Experience (by selecting “paper input” under the "survey form" option) within 4 weeks of it being completed (you should destroy the paper copy once inputted).

My Research Experience results

The My Research Experience dashboard is now available and includes data submitted from 1st April 2026. A demo on how to use the dashboard is here: MRE National Dashboard Demo - 2026/06/09 - Google Vids

The dashboard gives you easy to use, visual summary information - ideal for reports and presentations for your teams and directorates.

The dashboard is accessed via Qlik cloud and is updated weekly. To maintain anonymity and in accordance with NIHR privacy policy, free text responses will not be included on the dashboard, but will be available on request for studies where you have collected more than 10 responses. In this instance, please email Katie and Lucy and we will request the data from NIHR on your behalf.
