Diagnostic Cardiology

The first point of contact for accessing Diagnostic Cardiology is your R&D Coordinator, who will liaise with the appropriate contacts to ensure coordinated delivery of support for your research.

Facilities and expertise

As a leading Cardiology Diagnostic Service Provider, you can be sure that you will receive a professional patient centred service from Diagnostic Cardiology. We are very fortunate to be working in partnership with the Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit and the University of Sheffield, which enables some of the best healthcare researchers and clinicians to work together. Using state of the art equipment and digital archiving facilities, investigations can be performed in the department or at the patient’s bedside.

We offer a wide range of investigations, including:

  • Transthoracic Echocardiography
  • Transoesophageal Echocardiography
  • Dysynchrony echo studies

We also provide a range of interventional diagnostic cardiac investigations, including:

  • Angiography
  • PCI and Stenting
  • Pressure wires IVUS
  • Rotablator technology

There is also a full range of implantable devices, Pacemakers and Implantable Cardiac Devices (ICD’s).

Other investigations include:

  • Electrophysiology studies with anatomical mapping
  • Tilt Testing
  • Signal Averaging
  • Exercise Tolerance Testing (the majority being Physiologist led)
  • Ambulatory electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure (BP) monitoring
  • Seven day event recorders and routine ECG
  • ICD, Pacemaker, Reveal implant and follow-up clinics on a daily basis.

Diagnostic Cardiology staff are trained to BSE/HRUK professional accreditation ensuring reporting of a very high standard and quality. The department as a whole is currently in the process of applying for IQIPS, and BSE departmental accreditation.

All non-urgent requested tests are booked and completed within six weeks.
