Current COVID-19 trials and other research at STH

National:

When the COVID-19 pandemic started, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) prioritised COVID-19 research by initiating a new national process. They temporarily paused support for studies that were not nationally prioritised, including studies on topics other than COVID-19.

You can find out more here about the NIHR response to COVID-19 research.

You can find more about all COVID-19 studies that received approval from a Research Ethics Committee here.

Local:

The Trust followed national guidance to manage the outbreak of COVID-19. The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) clearly defined the priority as supporting the COVID-19 Urgent Public Health studies identified by the Department of Health and Social Care, with other non-COVID-19 research being temporarily stepped down.

We delivered both observational and interventional trials about COVID-19. During the pandemic,we continued to deliver a small number of non COVID-19 research studies where the benefits to patient safety of continued participation outweighed the risks of stopping.
